41st
Annual ARSC Conference
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
May 2-5, 2007
Victorians & their
Music Machines
The
Ward Irish Music Archive will be hosting our
2007 meeting, and
plans are already well underway for a program filled
with fascinating
lectures, tours and entertainment. In keeping with
the confer ence
theme, we will be featuring presentations dealing
with the dawn of
recorded sound and the transition from mechanical
musical instruments (music boxes, player pianos
and orchestrions) to devices meant to
capture and/or reproduce sound (phonographs and
magnetic recorders).
Like all ARSC conferences, we will have a pre-conference
workshop,
technical sessions and presentations dealing with
issues of interest
to archives and collectors alike, such as copyright,
access,
discography and preservation.
Saturday,
May 5 will be spent at the Sanfilippo Victorian
Palace,
where we will view one of the finest collections
of automatic musical
instruments in the world. Our annual awards banquet
will be held on
the Palace grounds, and will be followed by an organ
concert
performed on the Mighty Wurlitzer - at 80 ranks,
this magnificent
instrument is the largest theater pipe organ in the
world.
If
you only attend one ARSC conference in your life,
this should be
it. We will be staying at the fabulous Hilton hotel
in downtown
Milwaukee, and more details will be posted in coming
months. For
